Aberdeen striker Niall McGinn will be offered a new deal at the club, according to manager Derek McInnes.

McInnes is hoping to build a team around the Northern Ireland striker who has scored 22 goals this season.

The 25-year-old was linked with a number of clubs in January but insisted that he wanted to stay with Aberdeen.

McInnes is hopeful he can keep hold of McGinn and said: "I can only take Niall at his word and he says he is really enjoying being at Aberdeen.

"He is well thought of here by us and the fans and hopefully that can be good for us.

"We will look to speak to his agent in the next few weeks about a new contract. He has still got a year left and he has intimated he is going to be here next year so that is positive.

"We need a few more players like that at Aberdeen. Keeping players like Niall and bringing in a few of a similar quality is our aim."
