McCulloch: Our toughest title yet

Lee McCulloch admits the Third Division title has been one of the hardest honours to win during his time at Rangers.

The Ibrox skipper has already hailed this season's championship success as his favourite, despite possessing three Scottish Premier League medals.

And, as he prepares to lift the trophy in front of a sell-out crowd on Saturday, McCulloch claims triumphing in Scottish football's bottom tier was a lot tougher than some might think.

He said: "It really has been harder than people thought it would be or made it out to be.

"It's been hard for the manager sometimes. He'll be hoping for a season when he can just be a manager.

"It definitely has been hard so hopefully next season won't be as hard but just as successful."

Asked if this title success means as much to him as his past achievements, McCulloch added: "Of course it means as much.

"I've said it a few times before and some people have said it can't be but I really do mean it.

"To be the captain, this is definitely my favourite one - for the club to go through what it has been through, with the fans' support and the dressing room pulling together and the management and players pulling together."

Fans have already snapped up every ticket for the visit of Berwick in the last game of the season this weekend, when Rangers will be presented with the silverware.

And, with his son Jack set to be one of the mascots on the day, McCulloch is relishing the opportunity to celebrate the occasion with both family and the club's supporters.

He said: "Being the captain, having the armband on and having the privilege of lifting the trophy will be great.

"The stadium is sold out and it will be a great occasion but, being professionals, we still want to win the game.

"Then, everybody in the dressing room, including the management, will have a well-deserved party.

"I can't wait for it and neither can the boys. Everybody has got their family coming.

"We've got 22 mascots and I've got the wee man as mascot and a few of the players have got their kids as well."

McCulloch was one of the first players to pledge his future to Rangers when they were demoted to the Third Division last summer, when others opted to seal moves elsewhere.

But he says he made the right choice, insisting: "I wouldn't say I've had any regrets at all.

"You see the support from the fans, you see the manager take the reins and, as an experienced player, you want to try to help him and the club and the fans.

"I don't think there have been any regrets. I'm actually delighted that I stayed."
