Wolves slipped to bottom spot after being beaten 2-1 at home by Wigan on Boxing Day. McCarthy retains the backing of club owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey in a season where the likes of Chris Hughton and Sam Allardyce have been axed. And the former Republic of Ireland manager has faith in his squad to climb out of danger despite a lengthy list of injuries. McCarthy said: "No-one wants to be bottom but the players still have that resolve to get out of the current situation. "They won't give up. There won't be anyone throwing the towel in or fearing that they can't get out of it. "If you asked them they would all give you the same answer, that they are positive. "But we also know that from how they behave and are around the place and how they train. "They are very positive and come in with a good spirit - and I still believe we can get out of trouble." McCarthy admits he looks at how he can fine-tune his own preparations for games to try and improve Wolves current fortunes. He said: "I don't change the big picture in terms of how I do things and how I manage people. "I do look at how we approach games and tactics for the games, of course I do. "You have to try and find ways of getting a result but not by changing the fundamentals and the basics of what I am and how we do it. "I've been doing it for 20 years and it's done me alright. I've had a fair bit of success with the teams I've had." McCarthy will be looking for an improvement in his team's defensive qualities at Liverpool on Wednesdau night after some sloppy mistakes against the Latics. But he has promised a positive attitude at Anfield, adding: "It was just poor defending against Wigan. "We've tried to be solid but I also don't want to go to Liverpool and say 'come on attack us' either because that could be a recipe for disaster."
