Sidwell is expected to seal his switch to West Ham when the transfer window reopens next month after undergoing a medical at Upton Park. McCarthy had hoped to land the former Reading and Chelsea man after agreeing a fee with Villa but the chance to move to London has proved too good to turn down for Sidwell. "I thought he was coming to us," McCarthy said. "We had a deal on the table. "He has a house half an hour from West Ham. He spoke to the lads and wanted to come but West Ham came in and kyboshed it. "He'd have been good for us, but I can't fault his decision. "Maybe they will bring him in and sell Scott Parker. It was the choice of the player."
