Martinez welcomes lucky break

A mix-up between Sunderland goalkeeper Kieren Westwood and defender Wes Brown in the third minute of stoppage-time led to Franco di Santo sealing a dramatic 2-1 victory for the Latics at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Martinez said beforehand that Wigan would go into the contest feeling they were "owed points" after their controversial 3-3 draw with Blackburn at the DW Stadium a week earlier. Having been left fuming on that occasion by Rovers' second goal, which came from what appeared to be an illegitimate corner, the Spaniard was delighted to see his team enjoy some good fortune - and hopes there is more come. "In football you need luck - there is only so much you can achieve by being good," Martinez said ahead of Saturday's home clash with Arsenal. "Being good is great, and that is something you can affect, but having a little bit of luck helps you to be a stronger side. "In any sport where you have a group of individuals, you need to create that little bit of momentum and belief. That comes through good results, and luck plays a big part in football. "Sometimes you have a third party decision that is involved in the outcome of a game, and it can sometimes go your way, or sometimes go against you. "Unfortunately over the last few weeks, nothing went our way, and now it has turned around a little bit. "Every season you feel as if it will balance out, so we are looking forward to that."
