Martinez: Boselli to get a chance

Martinez has dismissed a suggestion from the player's agent that the Argentinian striker is set to go out on loan to either Italy or Spain. Instead Boselli, 25, seems to have been handed a window of opportunity at the DW Stadium. Boselli has yet to score in the Premier League since arriving from Estudiantes in the summer for a fee reported to be around £6.5million. He was on the bench in the defeat by Newcastle on Sunday and may have to play second fiddle again to Hugo Rodallega at Bolton on Wednesday. Asked if there was any movement regarding Boselli, Martinez said: "Not at all. I saw the story. I don't know what is the thought behind it. "Mauro came on and played half an hour on Sunday and when you have so many games in front of you, he has a great opportunity to try to settle into the team. We will see how things develop." Wigan have chalked up just one win in seven league games and are involved in the relegation mix. However Martinez does not believe that statistic paints a true picture of how his side are shaping up. The defeat by Alan Pardew's side came after a thrilling draw against Arsenal and a win at Wolves. Martinez said: "It is the nature of the competition. After the first 10 games we all thought Chelsea were going to run away with it (the title). Now there are five contenders. "To avoid relegation you have six, seven teams involved. It will come down to very small details. After the performance against Wolves and Arsenal we were starting to reach a very good level. "While Sunday was a disappointment, the result should not cloud the good work we have been doing. The squad will get a lot stronger when the injured players and suspended players return. "I have been very pleased with the players who have come in. We are a lot stronger now than we were two months ago." Martinez has nothing but admiration for his opposite number at Bolton, Owen Coyle. He said: "We know how difficult this game is going to be for Bolton are in very good form, especially at home. "We want to get back to being ourselves, impose ourselves and make sure we perform in the manner we can. "Bolton have a group of players who have been working together for a long, long time. They've had some outstanding results. They have a great attitude and a belief in the manner they play. "You know you are going to be very tested in every department as they will fight until the last second. They are playing with a smile on their face and enjoying their football."
