Sochaux player Marvin Martin has been forced to apologize after saying that he could never play for gay football organization Paris Foot Gay.
The 22-year-old midfielder made his comments last week in an interview with Sochaux's website, adding that he could not stand playing in a pink jersey.
The Paris Foot Gay organization criticized Sochaux for publishing the player's comments and asked the club to sign its charter against homophobia in football.
Martin said Thursday in a statement that he "never intended to hurt or insult a certain community with my words. Tolerance and respect matter a lot in high-level sport."
