PARIS -- New Marseille recruit Lucas Ocampos made an immediate impact by scoring the equalizer in a 1-1 draw at Rennes in the French league on Saturday.

The Argentine winger went on at the start of the second half for his debut, and converted his first chance. Ocampos, who joined the southern club on the last day of the transfer window from Monaco, leveled from Dimitri Payet's corner with a right-footed volley that hit the post before crossing the line.

Rennes opened the scoring in the 27th minute, courtesy of Ola Toivonen after Vincent Pajot headed a long ball for the Swedish forward, who chested it down and fired home with a low shot past Marseille `keeper Steve Mandanda.

Marseille failed to win away for the seventh straight match, and missed the chance to leapfrog Lyon at the top of the standings before the leader hosts Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.

Marseille finished with 10 men following Mario Lemina's straight red card in the 84th minute after an altercation with Toivonen.
