Mancini: Handshake will be Bridge's choice

Roberto Mancini has confirmed that he will not instruct Wayne Bridge to shake John Terry's hand before Manchester City's match at Chelsea on Saturday.

Bridge announced on Thursday that he has made himself unavailable for selection for this summer's World Cup in South Africa. The 29-year-old has claimed his position in the England squad is "untenable" - a decision related to the alleged affair between his former Chelsea team-mate John Terry and Vanessa Perroncel, the mother of his young son.

All eyes will be on Terry and Bridge before Saturday's game when they line up for the pre-match formalities but Mancini has stressed that Bridge alone will decide whether or not he should shake hands with the Chelsea captain.

The Manchester City manager has, however, confirmed that he will have no hesitation in selecting Bridge for the game.

"I think Wayne is OK," said Mancini.

"I don't know what has happened in the last two weeks but I am sorry for him.

"But mentally he is fine. He is an important player for us and we want him to play."
