The Malta Football Association has fired national coach John Buttigieg after his team picked up only one point in Euro 2012 qualifying.

Malta's FA said Wednesday that assistant coach Carmel Busuttil also was fired

Both were part way through five-year contracts that started in July 2009.

Under Buttigieg, Malta won just two of the 21 games - both friendly matches. The country's only point in Euro 2012 qualifying came from a home draw against Georgia in Group F.
