Under-pressure Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew admits he is not surprised to see other men linked with his job after a disastrous run of results.

The speculation over Pardew's future has intensified following five consecutive Premier League defeats and David Moyes was installed as the bookmakers' favorite to succeed the 52-year-old at St James' Park following his departure from Manchester United this week.

Sources on Tyneside have also had to quell speculation that Crystal Palace manager Tony Pulis was being lined up for an imminent vacancy.

"When you lose five games in the Premier League, if you can't accept that there's going to be some speculation about your job, then you are not being realistic," said Pardew.

"I have to be realistic, but what I won't do is focus away from what I do. I have worked really hard this week with the team and really focused on the team to make sure we put a performance in at Arsenal that we can be proud of.

"The situation, the longer-term here, looks good, but in the short term, we need to put it right."

Pardew will be back in the dugout at the Emirates for Monday's game against Arsenal after completing his touchline ban, and he is promising a more relaxed approach.

He said: "I think I will sit down a little bit more, but I still will be on the touchline. It's important that the team sees I'm there - we are a team and I am part of that.

"I have thought about my situation going forward and I think I will be better for it."
