Defender Matt Lowton's winning goal three minutes from time was hailed as ''world class'' as Aston Villa dragged Stoke into the English Premier League relegation fight with a 3-1 result on Saturday.

With the match heading towards a draw, Lowton chested an attempted clearance from a corner and volleyed the ball in from 30 yards out.

''I don't think you'll see a better goal in Europe, let alone Britain,'' Villa manager Paul Lambert said. ''The technique and the actual finish were just world class.''

Christian Benteke added the third in injury time as Villa moved two points above the relegation zone, and a point behind Stoke.

Gabriel Agbonlahor opened the scoring for Villa against the run of play in the only goal of the first half, and Michael Kightly equalized.
