Lowly Spanish club Almeria part company with coach Francisco

Almeria have parted company with coach Francisco Javier Rodriguez, the Primera Liga club announced on Tuesday.

The Andalusian club made the decision following Monday's 5-2 defeat at Eibar, that extended Almeria's winless run to eight games.

The loss was Almeria's eighth of the campaign and dropped them to 17th in the standings, level on 10 points with bottom-side Elche.

A statement from the club read: "Francisco is no longer the coach of UD Almeria, a decision taken by the club and which was notified to the coach following the team's arrival from Bilbao.

"Tuesday's training session will be carried out by physical trainer Sergio Pardo.

"The club wishes to thank Francisco for his professionalism, compromise and dedication to this club throughout the years, as a player and as a coach.

"Meanwhile, UD Almeria will proceed to find a new coach which will be appointed before the club's next La Liga game at home to Real Madrid on Friday."

A former Almeria striker, Francisco led the club to defend its Primera Liga status in the 2013-14 campaign in his first year in charge.

Almeria have struggled to make an impact so far and have collected just two points in their last eight league games.

Francisco is the fourth coach to have been shown the door in La Liga this season, after Cordoba parted company with Albert Ferrer, Levante sacked Jose Luis Mendilibar and Real Sociedad dismissed Jagoba Arrasate.
