Liverpool set to confirm Rodgers as boss

Liverpool FC has called a press conference for Friday morning when it is expected Brendan Rodgers will be introduced as the club's new manager.

Liverpool's American owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which also owns the Boston Red Sox, dismissed Kenny Dalglish earlier this month following an eighth place finish in the Premier League.

FSG decided earlier this week the Swansea manager was the man they wanted to take the club forward and the Northern Irishman later informed the Welsh side of his desire to move to Anfield.

Rodgers is said to be taking a few members of his Swansea staff with him to Merseyside after both clubs agreed to a compensation package.

"We can today (Thursday) confirm that a compensation package with Liverpool has been agreed for manager Brendan Rodgers and three members of his backroom staff," read a statement on Swansea's website.

"Both clubs have been in discussions to sort suitable compensation for Brendan along with assistant manager Colin Pascoe, performance analyst Chris Davies and head of sports science and medicine Glen Driscoll.

Wigan assistant manager Graeme Jones, who worked with Roberto Martinez during his time in charge at the Liberty Stadium, already has emerged as the favorite to succeed Rodgers.

Brighton boss Gus Poyet and Blackpool's Ian Holloway also have been linked with the vacant Swansea job.
