Lewington named Cottagers caretaker

Hodgson has been confirmed as Liverpool's new boss on a three-year contract after an impressive spell at Craven Cottage. He led Fulham to the Europa League final last season and has been praised for his achievements during his two-and-a-half years at the helm. The Cottagers are now on the look-out for a replacement and have turned to Lewington to steady the ship until Hodgson's successor is found. A club statement read: "Fulham confirm that at 9.20am this morning, Roy Hodgson resigned from his position of first-team manager, effective immediately. "The club would like to wish Roy the very best for the future and thanks him for all that was achieved during his tenure. "Ray Lewington will take temporary charge of team matters until a successor is announced in due course." Lewington made over 270 appearances for Fulham during his playing career and was also manager between 1986 and 1990. He has had previous spells as caretaker and was part of Hodgson's backroom team having initially returned to the club in 2005.
