The Spanish league has retracted its announcement that United States forward Jozy Altidore has joined Levante on loan from Villarreal in the Spanish league.
After posting a statement Monday on its Twitter account labeling the move as being official, the league used the same social networking website to later say ''Our apologizes!'' as ''there is no official announcement about JozyAltidore17 and UD Levante.''
Altidore has only appeared as a substitute in two league matches this season for Villarreal, which loaned Jefferson Montero to Levante on the last day of the January transfer window.
Levante is currently in the relegation zone in 18th place, two points from safety.
