Leighton Baines converted a penalty kick in the 88th minute as Everton salvaged a point in its 2-2 draw at Wigan in the Premier League on Saturday.

Baines kept his nerve after Kevin Mirallas was pulled down by Maynor Figueroa at the DW Stadium.

Chasing its first league win of the season, Wigan went ahead in the 10th through Arouna Kone before Nikica Jelavic's header brought Everton level less than a minute later. Franco Di Santo put Wigan ahead again in the 23rd.

Wigan almost won it in stoppage time when Shaun Maloney's deflected shot looped over goalkeeper Tim Howard, only to land on the roof of the net.
