Garry O'Connor slotted in a rebound in the 82nd minute to give Birmingham a 1-0 win over Beijing Guoan in a preseason friendly.

Goalkeeper Zhang Sipeng was unable to hold on to Cameron Jerome's shot, and O'Connor scored easily on the follow-up at Beijing's Bird's Nest stadium.

The best chance for Guoan, the Chinese Super League champions, came in the 59th minute when Xu Liang's free kick glanced off keeper Ben Foster's hand and then hit the crossbar.

Birmingham, owned by Hong Kong businessman Carson Yeung, is on a tour of Hong Kong and mainland China. The team next heads to northeastern China to play Liaoning Hongyun on Saturday.
