Los Angeles Galaxy star Landon Donovan put Australian soccer clubs on red alert Tuesday, saying he loves the country and has been impressed by the standard of its A-League competition.

The prolific striker has played in Germany's Bundesliga and the English Premier League and said he would not rule out a stint Down Under.

Currently in Australia as part of the Galaxy's end-of-season Asia Pacific Tour, Donovan said "he had always thought about playing here."

"If I had the opportunity to play again somewhere in Europe, or potentially here, [it] would be great," he told FOX Sports Australia after the Galaxy beat Melbourne Victory on penalties in an exhibition game Tuesday night. "I love it here."

Donovan said Major League Soccer (MLS) and the A-League were "similar" in styles.

"I'd be curious to see some of these teams playing in the MLS. I think it would be pretty even," he said.

The 29-year-old has been at LA Galaxy since 2005, scoring 83 goals in 168 games. He has also scored 46 goals in 138 appearances as a key member of the US national team.
