Genoa defender Kakha Kaladze has been suspended for four games and Cesena striker Adrian Mutu for three games by the Italian league.

Kaladze's penalty comes for insulting the referee after picking up his second yellow card in a 0-0 draw with Lecce on Sunday. He was also fined ?5,000 ($7,000).

Mutu was sent off during a 0-0 draw with his former club Fiorentina for swiping his arm toward the face of defender Mattia Cassani.

Disciplinary action is nothing new for Mutu, who returned from a nine-month doping ban a year ago then attacked a barman and was subsequently held out by Fiorentina for abandoning training without explanation in January.

Mutu has also been ordered to pay his former club Chelsea more than ?17 million ($23 million) in compensation in a lengthy legal case.
