Jung, Bender named in Germany squad

Germany coach Joachim Low has turned to uncapped Sebastian Jung of Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund's Sven Bender to fill the gaps left by injury-enforced defections from his squad to face Holland in an international friendly on Wednesday night.

Bayern Munich trio Bastian Schweinsteiger, Toni Kroos and Jerome Boateng all pulled out of the squad at the weekend while Borussia Dortmund's Marcel Schmelzer has also been forced to withdraw.

Jung therefore receives his first senior call after being backed to win his first cap by his club coach Armin Veh earlier this season.

"He deserves it," said Veh. "He is playing a fantastic season and has a good character."

Low is left with just 20 players for a friendly match which even he admits comes at an inconvenient time of the year.

"The problem at the end of the year is always that the players are under a lot of strain,'' he said on Sport1.de.

"It's quite possible that I use the game to test a few things. Maybe I give one or two only half a game.

"But we want to end the year with a good performance. We will play a highly intensive game.

"Matches against Holland are always something special, even if it is only a friendly match; prestige is at stake."

Rene Adler is expected to make his return to the Germany goal two years after his last cap while debuts for Jung and Roman Neustadter are also probable in Amsterdam.

Real Madrid later confirmed midfielder Mesut Ozil had also pulled out with an
ankle injury.
