Jubilo Iwata beats Independiente 4-2 on penalties

Former Japan international Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi made two saves in a penalty shootout for Jubilo Iwata to beat Independiente of Argentina 4-2 on penalty kicks in the Suruga Bank Cup on Wednesday.

Jubilo took an early 1-0 lead after an own-goal in the 10th minute from Roberto Battion, but Eduardo Tuzzio equalized for Independiente in the 33rd.

Facundo Parra gave Independiente a 2-1 lead in the 49th, before Tomoyuki Arata equalized for Jubilo midway through the second half for the two teams to finish 2-2 after regulation time.
