The U.S. Soccer Federation says midfielder Jermaine Jones will not be having knee surgery this week.

After Schalke allowed a pair of second-half goals in a 3-3 tie against Hoffenheim on Saturday in the Bundesliga, the club said Jones would not be on the roster for Tuesday's Champions League match at Basel.

Sport Bild quoted Jones as saying he would have surgery to repair a problem with a meniscus in a knee.

The U.S. Soccer Federation issued a statement from Jones on Monday in which he said ''I have had some minor issues with my knee for a while, and the plan is to take care of it during the winter break,''

''Playing is obviously no problem. I will be in the team this weekend for the game against Augsburg and I'm ready to go for the national team if I get called in.''

Jones helped the U.S. qualify for its seventh straight World Cup.
