Japan beat South Korea 2-1 to win its first East Asian Cup title Sunday behind Yoichiro Kakitani's two goals, including the winner in stoppage time.

Japan finished the tournament with seven points, two ahead of China, which beat Australia 4-3 earlier in the day.

Kakitani scored the winning goal in the first minute of stoppage time, picking up a loose ball after an impressive save by South Korean goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong. It was Kakitani's third goal of the tournament.

Kakitani opened the scoring in the 25th minute off a pass from Toshihiro Aoyama. The hosts tied it in the 33rd minute on Yun Il-lok's strike from the top of the penalty area that went past Japanese goalie Shusaku Nishikawa.
