Jagielka misses England training

Phil Jagielka was the only absentee from training today as England began their preparations for Saturday's friendly international with Spain at Wembley.

The Everton centre-back's fractured toe will be monitored by England's medical staff during the next 24 hours.

But Jagielka will have to train on Friday at Wembley to be considered for the clash with the World Cup holders.

England are liaising with Everton's medical staff over the condition of Jagielka and spoke again on Thursday morning.

He suffered the setback against Fulham on October 23 but has continued to play by taking pain-killing injections.

The other 24 players chosen by head coach Fabio Capello were put through their paces at Arsenal's London Colney training headquarters.

It is one of the least experienced squads assembled by the Italian with 11 players having won six caps or fewer.

Capello has still to formally announce who will be captain after his decision not to select John Terry against Spain although Frank Lampard remains the likely candidate.
