Iker Casillas to leave Real Madrid for Porto after 16 seasons

MADRID -- Goalkeeper Iker Casillas is leaving Real Madrid to join Portuguese club FC Porto after 16 seasons in which he helped the Spanish powerhouse win three Champions League titles, five Spanish leagues and two Copas del Rey.
Madrid announced on its website Saturday that a fee had been agreed for Casillas' transfer to Portugal.
Casillas joined Madrid's youth academy at the age of 10 and made his debut for its first team in 1999, before going on to become captain. He was regularly hailed by fans as ''Saint Iker'' because his daring saves seemed to them almost miraculous.
Casillas has helped Spain win the World Cup and two European championships.
His departure opens the door for a new goalkeeper, with persistent speculation swirling around the possible arrival of David de Gea from Manchester United.
