How Have Real Madrid Players Performed On International Duty?
With the first week of September comes the first international break of the 2016/2017 season following just two league games. Let’s take a look at the Real Madrid players who played a big role on their respective national teams this week.
With the first round of 2018 World Cup Qualifying really getting under way this past week, Real Madrid had 14 players who were called up to play for their countries. They are listed below:

James Rodriguez
James played two very good games this past week with Colombia scoring a goal and assisting on another in a 2-0 win over Venezuela September 1st in World Cup Qualifying. James has performed well with the national team leading them in the 2014 World Cup and winning the Golden Boot, and also leading Colombia to the finals of the Copa America this past summer.
James will hope his success on international duty will translate back to club play as well as hoping that manager Zinedine Zidane will take notice to his performance and give him an opportunity to play in the first team on his return.
Marcelo and Casemiro faced James on September 7th in a match where Brazil prevailed 2-1.

Real Madrid Players Playing for Spain
Real Madrid had an astounding five players called to duty to by Spain and nearly all the players were featured. Alvaro Morata, Sergio Ramos, and Dani Carvajal started in a 2-0 win over Liechtenstein in a friendly.
Morata picked up an apparent knock but it doesn’t appear too serious and the player should be available for the game against Osasuna. Lucas Vasquez saw a few minutes towards the end of the game while Marco Asensio remained on the bench, not being chosen by new boss Julen Lopetegui in his debut.

Other good performances of note, Pepe scored a goal for Portugal in a 5-0 friendly win over Gibraltar, Gareth Bale kept his recent run of good form going scoring two late goals against Moldavia in a 4-0 win.
The players have now all returned from international duty and are ready for a tough stretch of games coming up this week.
