American midfielder Stuart Holden limped off the field in the first half of the United States' 2-1 exhibition loss at the Netherlands with a bruised shin after a hard tackle by Nigel de Jong.

The 22-year-old, who has started the last two matches for Bolton in England's Premier League, was hurt in the 32nd minute on a late challenge by the Manchester City midfielder and held his lower right leg when he got to the U.S. bench.

Holden was replaced in the 34th minute by Glasgow Rangers midfielder DaMarcus Beasley, who made his first international appearance since the Confederations Cup last June.

Holden was taken for X-rays, and U.S. team spokesman Michael Kammarman said early Thursday that the team was awaiting the results.
