The 19-year-old Canadian is relishing life in the Premier League after breaking into the Rovers first team in recent weeks. Hoilett, comfortable in a number of attacking positions, has added a new dimension to Sam Allardyce's forward line and is now keen to establish himself in the top flight. "I am happy to be here," said Hoilett, who has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal after lengthy negotiations. "There were a few clauses that had to be removed but Blackburn was my first choice and always has been. "It has been good, I've had a few chances. It's important to keep developing and improving my standard. "I'm really looking forward to the trip to Anfield this weekend. "I always look forward to playing against the top sides in the Premier League and one of the greatest players - Steven Gerrard of course." Hoilett was first spotted by Blackburn playing in a junior tournament and then joined the club after impressing in a trial at the age of 12. Work permit problems meant he had to be loaned out to German clubs SC Paderborn and St Pauli after he turned 16 but those issues have now been resolved. Manager Sam Allardyce has given the player a chance this term and his early first-team performances have been promising. Hoilett said: "I enjoyed my time out in Germany. "I improved a lot and I gained a lot of experience playing in front of thousands of fans at such a young age. I really enjoyed it. "I'm really looking forward to working more with Sam. He has confidence in me, he believes in me. "There are a lot of young players coming though and we all work well together as a unit, so hopefully we'll develop well." Hoilett still regards Canada as home but is now well settled in England after a difficult start. He said: "At the age of 11, I came over to the Ian Rush tournament in Wales with my team in Canada and was scouted by a number of clubs. "When I was 12, I came over on a month's trial to Blackburn and the following year they wanted me to move over, which I had to think about for a year. "I decided to go for it. I was delighted and I wanted to but I had to move away from my family and friends. "The first year was difficult, but I've learnt how to cope with it and here I am today. "The players treat me well, the staff treat me well and I'm happy to be playing at Blackburn Rovers."
