Hoffenheim officials have met with Marseille winger Hatem Ben Arfa in an effort to lure the Newcastle target to Germany this summer.
Ben Arfa looks certain to leave Marseille this summer and Newcastle are believed to have failed with at least one bid already.
It has been reported the 23-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League but the Magpies face stiff competition from Hoffenheim, who now claim to have met with the Frenchman.
"With coach Ralf Rangnick, we met Hatem and Marseille sporting director Jose Anigo," said Hoffenheim assistant coach Peter Ziedler.

"We were immediately on the same wavelength. Hatem made a good impression on us and we absolutely want him."
