Second-division Hercules beat Osasuna 2-1 while another second-tier side, Rayo Vallecano, beat 10-man Mallorca 2-1 in the Copa del Rey round of 16 on Thursday.

Also, Malaga beat Getafe 2-1.

Cristian Hidalgo scored in the 18th minute for Hercules after a quick-fire exchange of passes between Francisco Pena, Jorge "Tote" Lopez and Rafael Jorda.

Jorge Galan equalized just after halftime, following up on the rebound from Roberto "Ruper" Lopez's long-range shot, then Joseba del Olmo scored the winner by deflecting a right cross in the 68th.

At Rayo Vallecano's Teresa Rivero Stadium, host captain Miguel Angel Sanchez put his team ahead in the 17th, latching on to a loose ball and dribbling past goalkeeper Dario German Lux.

Five minutes later Julio Alvarez equalized from Paulo Pezzolano's assist.

Sanchez then set up Rayo's second just before halftime, receiving a pass, spinning away from his marker and delivering a cross that Juan Jose Collantes headed in.

Felipe Mattioni was ejected in the 37th for his second yellow card. Despite being a man down Mallorca, which was fourth in the first division standings, came close to equalizing several times in an open game.

In Malaga, Antonio Galdeano scored for the home side in the 11th and Aldinho made it 2-0 with a free kick just before halftime. Milan Stepanov's own goal kept the tie alive.

In the week's other games: Sevilla beat Barcelona 2-1, Celta Vigo drew 1-1 with Villarreal, Deportivo La Coruna beat Valencia 2-1, Racing Santander beat Alcorcon 3-2, and Recreativo Huelva beat Atletico Madrid 3-0.
