Hearts staff receive wages

Hearts have declared themselves up to date with wages after several players and John McGlynn failed to get payments as scheduled on Monday.

Six players and two members of staff, including McGlynn, had been waiting on the money.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Hearts today revealed that the manager and players have been paid. Full salary payments were made this morning."

The Scottish Premier League, who introduced new financial fair play rules in the summer compelling all clubs to inform them of wage problems, were due to discuss the issue at a scheduled board meeting tomorrow.

This week's problem followed four more significant delays last season, which resulted in an SPL edict for them to pay players on time in January.

But McGlynn played down the issue, which came as SPL clubs awaited money due from television revenue, which was delayed following re-negotiations sparked by the collapse of Rangers.

Speaking this morning before being paid, McGlynn said: "No-one said there's going to be an ongoing issues with the wages, but you cannot be daft and think these things are not going to come up.

"You hope they're not going to come up, obviously, because it is a distraction that you could do without.

"It has risen up and you have to deal with it, play the cards that you're dealt."

McGlynn, who returned to Tynecastle from Raith this summer as Hearts cut their wage budget, added: "The players have been here before, done it before and they've always been paid. It's maybe not been on time, but they've always been paid.

"They're more comfortable with the situation right now. Like anyone they'd have preferred to have been paid on time and not had this issue, but they've dealt with it very, very well so far."

McGlynn said the group of players who had not been paid on time did not make a big issue of the delay.

He also confirmed that Ryan Stevenson, who returned to Hearts last month after quitting for Ipswich in January in protest at not being paid, had not been affected this time.

McGlynn's most immediate concern now he and his players have been paid is a back/hip problem that could deprive him of defender Andy Webster for Saturday's SPL clash against Dundee United at Tannadice.

"Webster picked up an injury on Tuesday which could make him extremely doubtful," McGlynn said.
