Hamburger SV has appointed Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk to replace the fired Thorsten Fink.
The former Netherlands coach agreed to a deal through June 2015, the Bundesliga club announced on its website late Monday. The 61-year-old Van Marwijk will be assisted by Roel Coumans.
''We're delighted that in Bert van Marwijk we could secure a coach with extensive experience, who has demonstrated his competence time and time again,'' Hamburg sporting director Oliver Kreuzer said.
Van Marwijk will take charge of his first Hamburg training session on Wednesday, when the club will also introduce him at a news conference.
He becomes the fourth Dutchman to coach Hamburg after Huub Stevens, Martin Jol und Ricardo Moniz.
Hamburg fired Fink last Monday after a disappointing start to the Bundesliga, including humiliating losses to Borussia Dortmund and Hoffenheim. The team has just four points from six games after losing again at the weekend - 2-0 at home to Werder Bremen in the northern derby.
Van Marwijk led to the Netherlands to the 2010 World Cup final but resigned from the national team after a disappointing Euro 2012.
As a midfielder, Van Marwijk played in the Dutch Eredivisie for Go Ahead Eagles, AZ Alkmaar and MVV Maastricht among others. He made one appearance for the Netherlands.
Van Marwijk previously coached Dutch sides Fortuna Sittard and Feyenoord (twice), and had a 2 1/2-year stint in charge of Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.
