Hamburg qualified for the Europa League quarterfinals despite
losing 4-3 to Anderlecht in the second leg of its last-16 match.
With 15 minutes left on Thursday, Anderlecht were 4-2 ahead
and needing just one more goal to advance but Mladen Petric's
driven strike ended the Belgian side's challenge.
Hamburg opened the scoring through Jerome Boateng in the 42nd
minute but goals by Romelu Lukaku and Matias Suerez gave the home
side a half-time lead.
Hamburg looked to have clinched a quarterfinal spot when
Marcell Jansen made it 2-2 on the night - and 5-3 on aggregate -
but Anderlecht scored through Lucas Biglia and Mbark Boussoufa to
reduce the deficit.
Petric's late strike sealed progression for the German team.
