Benfica's miserable end to the season got even worse on Sunday when it conceded two late goals to lose the Portuguese Cup final 2-1 to Guimaraes, leaving it without silverware after being in contention for three trophies.
Benfica lost the final of the Europa League to Chelsea and was leading the Portuguese league until the second-to-last round when it lost to eventual champion FC Porto.
Benfica went ahead thanks to Nicolas Gaitan's goal on the half-hour mark and looked set to end its season with a trophy.
But Guimaraes forward Soudani El Arbi equalized in the 80th, and two minutes later Ricardo Barbosa grabbed the winner to complete the dramatic comeback.
