Groningen made to work for win

Florencio Cornelia gave the third-tier side a shock lead midway through the first half but Groningen showed their class by turning the game on its head before the break with goals from Tom Hiariej and Thomas Enevoldsen. Enevoldsen gave Pieter Huistra's side some breathing space with a third goal just after the hour, rendering Berry Halfwerk's goal 18 minutes from time little more than consolation. NAC Breda did not have it easy in their quest to reach the last eight either, but Kees Luyckx's goal after 27 minutes proved enough to edge them past Stormvogels Telstar 1-0 and secure a quarter-final date with Ajax. The other two last-16 ties were decided on penalties. RKC Waalwijk saw off Achilles 29 3-1 after their match had finished 1-1 after 90 minutes and 2-2 after extra time. Mark Janssen equalised for RKC four minutes from time, cancelling out Gradus Hampenius' opener, and then put his side ahead six minutes into extra time only for Ivo Rigter to restore parity for Achilles. Noordwijk beat Sparta Nijkerk 5-3 on spot-kicks after their encounter had finished 2-2 over 90 minutes and 3-3 after 120. Maurice van der Wilt put Sparta ahead after 24 minutes but Mo Faouzi and Marcel Akerboom looked to have put Sparta in the driving seat with goals in the space of seven minutes before the interval. The hosts had other ideas, though, with a goal from Albert van Nijhuis taking the game into extra time and then Marc van der Vegte completing the turnaround with a further strike in the first minute of extra time, only for Faouzi's second of the night to force penalties.
