Green escapes FA punishment for gesture to press

West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green has escaped punishment from the Football Association following a gesture toward the media at the end of the Premier League match against Tottenham.

Green made a straight-arm gesture to members of the press as he left the pitch at Upton Park on Saturday after his inspired display in the 1-0 win over Spurs, which lifted West Ham off the bottom of the table.

The 30-year-old Green was heavily criticized in the British press during the World Cup for fumbling a shot by midfielder Clint Dempsey into the net in England's 1-1 draw with the United States.

The FA will write to Green to remind him of his responsibilities but will take no further action.
