Granada rallies to beat 10-man Sociedad
Granada moved five points clear of the relegation zone with a convincing 4-1 home win over 10-man Real Sociedad.
The visitors had taken an early lead when Mikel Gonzalez headed in Asier Illarramendi's cross after 10 minutes, but Granada were level two minutes later as Inigo Lopez found space at the back post to nod in Mikel Rico's cross.
Illarramendi was shown a straight red card just before half-time for a lunge on Franco Jara and the hosts took advantage of the extra man in the second period as Jara's wonder strike and Ikechukwu Uche's header put them 3-1 in front.
Granada defender Guilherme Siqueira was also sent off with five minutes remaining to even up the numbers but it made little difference as the home side immediately broke upfield and Uche sealed the three points with a tap-in after Claudio Bravo had denied Jara.
Sociedad came into the game on a high after Monday's 2-0 win over Sevilla and they made a great start as the returning Illarramendi picked out Gonzalez to head past the indecisive Roberto.
The lead did not last long though as a Granada corner broke to Mikel Rico on the right and his tantalising ball back into the area was powered home by Lopez.
The centre-back should have had a second when he headed wide from Carlos Martins' corner, before the first half ended with a couple of major talking points as referee Fernando Teixeira Vitienes firstly showed Illarramendi red for a tackle from behind on Jara before denying the hosts what looked like a clear penalty when Fran Rico went down under a challenge from Carlos Martinez.
Granada were celebrating the lead 10 minutes after the break though as Jara cut in from the left and smashed a wonderful drive high past Bravo into the top corner.
Substitute Uche then all but ended the game as a contest five minutes later when he calmly headed home with his first touch after Mikel Rico's cross had been deflected into his path.
It became 10 against 10 in the 86th minute when Siqueira was shown a second booking for a needless handball five minutes from the end, but Granada's day was not to be spoiled and Uche rounded it off with the easiest of finishes from two yards after Bravo had done well to stop Jara's initial effort.
