Gourcuff: Diarra embarrassed me

Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff admits his former Bordeaux team-mate Alou Diarra marked him out of Sunday's 2-0 defeat.

Goals from Diarra and Jussie inflicted a third defeat on OL in six Ligue 1 matches, as Gourcuff, a 22 million euro (£18.4million) summer signing from Bordeaux, found the going tough.

Asked by sports newspaper L'Equipe whether Diarra had "embarrassed" him, Gourcuff said: "Entirely. He was always near me. I had to play between the lines and he tracked me, almost as if he were man-marking me.

"We should have killed the game by opening the scoring. If we had scored, they would have been obliged to come at us and after that, we would have used the spaces."

Bordeaux boss Jean Tigana insisted his team had not developed a specific plan to stifle the creativity of their former star.

He said: "Gourcuff was not mentioned in the week (leading up to the game). I do not give instructions to a player. It was unclear whether (Gourcuff) would play."
