Gomez vows to fight for place

Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez has ruled out a transfer this summer and vowed to win back his place in the team.

The Germany international is currently fourth-choice striker under Louis van Gaal with Miroslav Klose, Thomas Muller and Ivica Olic ahead of him in the pecking order.

But despite reported interest from Real Madrid and Marseille, Gomez insists he will grit his teeth and fight for more than the 15 minutes he played in Bayern's Bundesliga opener against Wolfsburg on Friday.

"I have made my position clear - there will be no transfer," he told the Bild newspaper. "I want to convince the coach that he will soon field me in his starting XI. Hard work will be rewarded, I am sure about that."

Gomez arrived in Munich from Stuttgart 12 months ago for a club-record fee of 35 million euros (£28.6million).

He could not hold down a regular berth in the Bayern attack last season either, although he still managed to score 10 goals.

He netted 24 for Stuttgart in the 2008-09 season and has yet to reproduce that form in a Bayern shirt.
