Gold highlights Parker credentials

David Gold admits he is bemused by Fabio Capello's decision to overlook Scott Parker and has urged the Italian to recall the West Ham midfielder for England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro. Parker has been one of the few success stories at Upton Park this season as the Hammers face up to what may be another season fighting against relegation from the Premier League. The 29-year-old was omitted from Capello's final World Cup party after making the original 30-man squad. The former Chelsea man has not featured for his country since despite picking up three goals whilst starring for the Hammers. Gold thinks Parker's all-round qualities would provide England with an effective alternative for their Euro 2012 qualifier against the Balkan nation on Tuesday week and has urged Capello to include the midfielder in his squad, which is announced tomorrow afternoon. The West Ham co-chairman, whose side scrapped for a 1-1 draw at home to Fulham yesterday, said: "I find it quite interesting that he keeps getting overlooked because he is so different to anything else we have got. "Scotty Parker would bring something to the midfield that England have been lacking for the last couple of years "He's someone who can make goals, who can score goals and he can track back. He has every attribute that most managers dream of. "He could slot in to the team easily. The argument has always been that (Steven) Gerrard and Lampard cannot play together but I promise you that Gerrard and Scotty Parker can play together. They're made for each other." The former Charlton man's exclusion from the 23-man party which flew to South Africa came as a bit of a surprise given that midfielder Gareth Barry, who plays a similar role to Parker in the England side, was carrying an ankle injury going into the tournament. The Three Lions went on to perform poorly at the World Cup and Gold reckons that England would have performed much better had Parker been in the squad. "Whenever you look at all of England's matches during the World Cup, you think: 'Scotty Parker could make the difference here'," said Gold. "Fans around the country were screaming for Scott Parker. We need a player like him to come on because the way we are playing is not working. It didn't take the brain power of Lloyd George to see that." Parker's strike against Stoke brought his tally to three goals for the campaign, equalling the total number of goals he had scored for the last two seasons combined. Gold has been impressed with Parker's contribution to West Ham so far this season and is confident the midfielder will go from strength to strength for the remainder of the campaign. "He has scored three goals and has moulded the midfield around him ," said Gold. "He's has made us stronger as a team and I think we'll see a lot of goals from midfield this season. I'm very optimistic he'll continue playing well." Frederic Piquionne salvaged a point for the Hammers as his 51st-minute header from Victor Obinna's cross earned a point against the Cottagers.
