Argentinian outfit Godoy Cruz have made it into the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana after a goalless draw with compatriots Lanus in Mendoza.

The 2-2 first leg draw as visitors in Buenos Aires was enough for Jorge Da Silva's men, with away goals crucial.

Lanus, coached by Gabriel Schurrer, had several opportunities to net the winning goal as Godoy Cruz chose a defensive approach in the return match at the Estadio Malvinas Argentinas.

Striker Mariano Pavone had the most significant chance for Lanus with an effort which hit the bar, while Godoy Cruz goalkeeper Sebastian Torrico was man of the match after making several good saves.

Peruvian giants Universitario or Venezuela's Deportivo Anzoategui will be Godoy Cruz's next opponents.

Torrico said: "The first leg was crucial and the two goals we scored were very useful. Tonight, we played with more intelligence than football.

"Maybe Lanus deserved a better result today, but in the 180 minutes we deserved to qualify."

Pavone criticised Godoy Cruz's negative tactics in the return, adding on Fox Sports: "Godoy Cruz have great players but today they only tried to keep a clean sheet. It's good, but surprising.

"They made the 2-2 first leg draw worthy. We had a lot of opportunities to score - but if you fail it is difficult to win.''
