Aston Villa says goalkeeper Shay Given will be out for a month after tearing his left hamstring in last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United, giving American Brad Guzan a chance to make his first Premier League start.

Guzan, a member of last year's U.S. World Cup team, is in line to get the start Saturday at Bolton.

He joined the club from Major League Soccer's Chivas USA in July 2008 and while he has played in the Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup, he has made just two EPL appearances: He entered in the 65th minute of a 5-0 loss to Liverpool on March 22, 2009, after compatriot Brad Friedel received a red card, then replaced Given in the 38th minute Saturday.

Villa manager Alex McLeish said Monday ''it is disappointing to lose Shay in such circumstances but ... we have total faith in Brad who ... can be proud of the way he stepped in when Shay had to come off.''
