The Ghana Football Association says AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has written a letter to say he no longer wants to play for the national team.

In a statement on its website Friday, the Ghana FA says the 24-year-old Boateng blamed the ''physical demands of playing for both club and country at high levels.''

Boateng made his Ghana debut only last year after representing Germany at under-21 and youth levels.

He was given clearance by FIFA in time to play for Ghana at the World Cup in South Africa where the team reached the quarterfinals for the first time. Boateng has won nine caps in total, scoring one goal.
