Getafe ends Granada run

Substitute Javier Casquero scored the only goal as lowly Getafe ended Granada's five game unbeaten run in their Primera Division clash at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez.

Granada had enjoyed a good run of form in recent weeks which included victories over Real Zaragoza, Athletic Bilbao and Sevilla, but that ended against Getafe who climbed out of the relegation zone as a result of the win.

The home side started strongly and dominated the first half, pressurising the Granada defence from the kick-off.

Getafe striker Diego Castro forced a brilliant save from Granada goalkeeper Roberto in the fifth minute when he tested him with a close-range strike

Castro tried his luck again a minute later but his 25-yard shot flew past the left post before Getafe midfielder Sarabia failed to convert another chance from the left side of the six-yard box.

Roberto denied Michel's long-range effort in the 15th minute before he punched Abdelaziz Barrada's corner to safety as the home side continued to pepper the Granada goal.

The visitors offered little attacking threat as the first half continued with Getafe monopolising all the chances.

The best opportunity to break the deadlock fell to Medhi Lacen three minutes before the half-time whistle. Sarabia delivered a testing cross which Lacen struck from the left of the six-yard box which Roberto parried in an anxious moment for the visitors.

After the break, Granada had their first real goalscoring chance of the match when Abel forced a save from Miguel Moya with a close-range strike in the 48th minute.

Odion Ighalo tested Moya again minutes later before Granada midfielder Franco Jara blasted a long-range effort over the bar as the visitors looked to build some momentum.

However, it was the home side who made the breakthrough in the 78th minute through substitute Casquero, who had replaced Michel after an hour.

The midfielder fired home from 18 yards and sealed Getafe's fourth league win of the season in the last real action of the match.
