Galliani calls for extra referees behind goal

AC Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani has written an open letter to the Italian football federation calling for the use of extra referees behind each goal ''as soon as possible.''

Milan was disappointed after having a goal disallowed in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Catania when the referee judged that Robinho's strike had not crossed the line.

The incident took place just over a month after a Sulley Muntari headed effort that replays showed had crossed the line was not given against Juventus.

In a letter to FIGC President Giancarlo Abete, Galliani says he realizes goalline technology ''may face obstacles and not be accepted'' but sees ''no reason why we can't adopt the use of extra referees behind the goal too as used in the Champions League.''
