Galatasaray picks Hagi as new coach

Galatasaray has named Gheorghe Hagi to replace Frank Rijkaard as coach of the Turkish club.
In a statement posted on its website Thursday, Galatasaray said the former Romania great was expected to sign a contract on Friday. It gave no details of the deal.
Galatasaray said former Blackburn and Turkey player Tugay Kerimoglu has been appointed assistant manager under Hagi.
The team said Wednesday it had parted ways with Rijkaard following a disappointing start to the season.

Hagi previously trained Galatasaray in 2004-05. He played for the team when it won the UEFA Cup in 2000.
Galatasaray is currently lagging in ninth place in the Turkish league table.
