France Under-21 defender Kurt Zouma has been suspended for 10 matches for a tackle which broke an opponent's right leg in a French league match.

The league says it considered the ''dangerousness'' of the 19-year-old Saint-Etienne player's challenge on Sochaux forward Thomas Guerbert before imposing the ban.

Zouma, a member of France's Under-20 World Cup-winning team in July, was sent off in the 0-0 draw on Saturday. His ban extends until late January.

Guerbert's tibia and fibula were broken and ankle dislocated. He could be out for up to six months.
