The Football League newcomers welcome established Championship opposition to Highbury for their first competitive game since winning last season's Blue Square Premier League with over 100 points.
And Ball is optimistic the upwardly-mobile Lancastrians can keep their momentum going.
"This is probably the most excited I've been for the start of a season and I've really enjoyed the last two weeks since I've been here," the ex-Peterborough striker told the club's official website.
"It should be a great game on Monday, it's a real big club we're playing against and hopefully there'll be a lot of fans there to watch the game and you never know, if we play the way we play we could give them a good game."
Monday night's other two ties see Championship newcomers Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday tackle opposition familiar from last season's League One campaign as they travel to Preston and Oldham respectively.
The Yorkshire pair cannot expect an easy night, with their opponents relishing the task of upsetting their now second-tier foes.
Preston manager Graham Westley told his club's website: "There is that tingle. A little bit of buzz. It's all very well waiting for pre-season games but the real thing has something extra about it.
"Monday we don't expect to be an easy game. They won promotion last time out and credit to them all there for doing that.
"They came here and got beat last season when we weren't playing so well, but it's a new season and they will want to start well, as will we. But as Bill Shankly said, 'you are neither better or lesser of a team beforehand, it's what you do in the 90 minutes that makes the difference'."
Latics counterpart Paul Dickov is banking on the freedom afforded by his side's underdog status to bring the best out of them.
He said: "Sheffield Wednesday are a Championship club and will be expected to win so there will be no pressure on us.
"The game will be a really good test for ourselves as we are up against a team from a higher division and one which I think will do well in the Championship."
