Fiorentina hires Vincenzo Montella as coach

Fiorentina has hired Vincenzo Montella as coach on a two-year contract to replace Delio Rossi, who was fired last month for hitting midfielder Adem Ljajic during a Serie A match.

The deal contains the option of another year and was signed on Monday by Montella, who was released last week from his contract with Catania.

Montella took over at Catania last year after a brief spell as caretaker-coach at Roma. He led the Sicilian club to an 11th-place finish.

The 37-year-old Montella will be presented at 1300 local time (1100 GMT).
